I was wondering how often, on average, everyone has D symptoms. Include everything from painful and urgent D attacks to annoying chronic loose stools. Anything that you would consider as unacceptable, dysfunctional or a symptom of IBS. My test is "would i be content with this on a daily basis?"If not then we'll call it D for now.If I have enough responses then I will post results. Please choose from the following: (copy & paste is best)>8/day4-8/day2-3 /day1/day3-6/week1-2/week<4/monthNo PatternOther: If you are using med(s), hypno, etc. please separate it by a comma eg:1/day, immodium, calciumThanks!! jcaf[This message has been edited by jcaf (edited 09-10-2000).]

For the most part (but "D" can vary and be unpredictable as we all well know) I will have an episode of "D"about 3-4 x month...I currently take 1-2 probiotics day/ vitamin B complex and 1 750 mg l-glutamine. Also try to watch the sugar intake but otherwise eat most of what I want. I ONLY take immodium if I need to for peace of mind and special occasions...and then only one.

3-4/week then no BM for 2 to 4 days.I am beginning to take immodium again despite the fact that my gastro said not to - getting through my day is unbearable otherewise. I take bentyl as needed but it knocks me for a loop. Caffeine is a trigger but I'm not sure what else.------------------Metropolis"It is no use saying, 'We are doing our best.' I have a question about the di-di and it's kind of...well, graphic but I am really wondering this:When you say diarrhea, do you mean pure liquid, explosive, almost liquid etc.? The reason I ask is I can go 5-8 times a day but not have it be pure liquid and then less often, say 4 times months have it be of an explosive nature and be about 5-8 times as well.Sorry so gross but any comments appreciated.

Good point bug! and thanks for everyones responses. My idea for this survey is to simplify, generalize and include everything from painful and urgent D attacks to annoying chronic loose stools. Anything that you would consider as unacceptable, dysfunctional or a symptom of IBS. My test is "would i be content with this on a daily basis?"If not then we'll call it D for now.I want 1000 responses so i can see i have my work cut out as well as alot of bumping to do (Haha)![This message has been edited by jcaf (edited 08-27-2000).]

2-3/day, have stopped all D related meds and try to control as much as possible with diet. Have not found any meds that work consistently and find I would rather know to expect the D than to be caught off guard at the wrong time--which happens with all the meds I've tried!

A per day or week or month type thing isn't easy to apply for me because I have long stretches of several months where things are tolerable followed by a stretch like I'm in now where I feel somewhat bad daily. In my case, it usually isn't the trips to the bathroom that's the big deal. It's the discomfort associated with it. The constant feeling like you have to go even when it seems to be all out, the cramping, the weakness, the bloating...geez...I think I'm bumming myself out here...

I think this survey is difficult to answer for many of us because there is no "typical" day with IBS. That's one of the things that makes it so hard to cope with--evidently, NON-IBSers have a regular movement at about the same time every day. They can even plan their schedule around it! I can't even imagine that luxury. My frequency ranges from days with "nothing" (maybe once a week) to 2-3 times a day (more often than not) to 10 times in a day. Would I be content with this on a daily basis? It doesn't matter--I have no choice.

Only 2 short episodes of D in over 4 months! I take 1/2 Lotronex and 1 dose of Citrucel daily. The Lotronex has helped immensely. Before Lotronex, I was 3-4/weekly. At that time I took Imodium as needed to curtail the episodes (whenever a social event made bathroom trips too nerve wracking).

Episodes range from 3-4/day most of the time. Some days, up to 15.Have taken 1 Lotronex every 2-4 days over last three months. Recommended dosage caused major C - so reduced dosage on my own. That's when episodes ranged to 3-4/day.Because of the concerns reports last week, have stopped Lotronex completely.

can go for 4-5 days with normal function. 6-8 bowel movements per day, sometimes just loose, sometimes watery. Average 1 dose Immodium per week to restore normal function for 4-5 days. Citrucel didn't help, Metamucil made things worse.
