With all this back and forth about gas and upper GI bacteria, it dawned on me that my IBS began as a gas/fatigue problem after meals. Over the next several years it developed into a much more severe motility problem. I'm wondering if anyone else came to the wonderful world of ibs via this route?

Mine started the same way in the past year. First, I had slight G for months and I didn't think much of it. Then I started having C and sometimes D. In the period before it started I was eating sushi frequently and that is the only thing I can attribute it to.

Same here. My first symptom was constant stomach growling which I attributed to the time change (had to wait an hour later to eat lunch). Then it turned from growling to gas. It was a small problem in the beginning and I thought I just had to stop eating cereal in the morning. Kept changing my breakfast (to toast and grits - never gave me a problem) but it just got worse. Then I started getting C then D then C/D now I alternate between C and C/D.
