It was so hot here yesterday that took my kids to my moms house and went swimming. they had fun and as long as I was in the pool or laying out in the sun not doing much I had fun too. But my question is, has anyone ever experienced really bad flare-ups after swimming? I didn't really swim per se, I just sort of leaned my arms on a float and dangled the rest of me in the water. Very relaxing and felt great because every thing was basically weightless. But about an hour after I got out of the pool I suddenly felt like everything inside me crash landed to the bottom. I experienced severe sharp pains, (almost worse than hard labor) and really explosive soft BM's. Was like that for a couple hours where I would get severe pain, go to the bathroom, and feel a little better for about 10 minutes and it would start all over again. Today I still feel really crappy (no pun intended)and am having frequent BM's that are really painfull. I remembered that it happened a couple times last summer too but don't remember if it were this bad then or if it's worse now for some reason.Anyone else notice if this has happened to them too??also need some good luck, I have an interview Thursday night at the fire department in my town for an emergency medical technician position. It's an oncall job so I basically get to sit home and wait to see if I am called out for any medical assistance so I don't have to worry about being at an office all day and whatnot. It's really the perfect set up for someone like me. LOL. Just hope I don't have a problem with D and pain at the interview!! Need some words of encouragement.------------------It can only get better from here I hope!Sandi

I go to a water aerobics' class three times a week. So I'm in a pool a lot. We always swim after class too. I've never had a problem after. In fact my IBS has been better since my classes. I'm at an indoor pool. Maybe it's the heat and sun that contributed or maybe it's just coincidence? Don't know, you'll have to experiment to find out. Good luck with your interview. Keep my fingers crossed for you!

Never had a problem with cramps and D after a swim. Hmmm, rather odd what happened to you. Did you eat something at your mom's house that you shouldn't have?Good luck with the interview. Don't you worry about cramps and D if you would get called out on an emergency? Or is there too much going on to even worry about it? I was just curious how someone with an important job like you're going to have would deal with something like IBS.

Thank you all for responding. Maybe it was the heat and whatnot that contributed. I don't know. Also Marier, yes i do worry about having cramps and D, but with this job since I will be sitting around home until I get called it won't be too worrisome because also if I am feeling really awful on a particular day I just need to call and tell them that I won't be there. I won't be the only one on call though so it shouldn't be too bad. Also doing the job I love helps keep my mind off it a little, plus all the adrenaline that goes through my body during any medical calls i have ever done before is a great pain reliever!! LOL. Crashing off the adrenaline is a ###### though. LOL. But thanks for your conscern, it means alot. Sandi

I often get an attack of cramps and D after I FIRST jump into a swimming pool. Then I have to rush to the restroom and peel off a wet suit, which I hate. I'm convinced that the cause is the temperature differential between the warm air and the cold water. I can also get this from walking into a air-conditioned store on a hot day. Course, that doesn't explain what happened to you. Maybe you just overdid? Too much exercise can bring on IBS, too.
