Hi everyone,I've been very interested (and happy)to look at the feedback on this board re: hypnotherapy, especially with Mike's tapes.Anyway, for those of you have experienced improvement with hypnotherapy- how long was it before you started noticing any changes? Also, what method were you using? Did you listen to a tape everyday, see a therapist, etc? Thanks!

Hi peristalsis - good question!
Well, it sounds crazy, but I noticed a marked improvement in my symptoms after just three days of listening to Mike's tapes, going from very irregular and unpredictable C/D to virtually normal BMs in that time. After one week (I think - may have been two) I was able to leave the house for the first time in over a year!
I am now more than half way through the program, and still feeling good, with just the odd (relatively mild) episode of IBS (maybe once a fortnight, as opposed to constant symptoms).

I started Mikes tapes about 40 days ago and I noticed a change witnin the first week. Less gas, bloating and WAY less D. I was able to calm myself down internally before I had my gut spinning out of control. At the same time that I started the tapes, I made a very conscience effort to make changes, diet, exercise, caltrate, stress, so I do not know what exactly the percentages of what I had done attributed to the success. I just feel very lucky to have had 35 days or so of no major troubles.(except the corned beef and cabbage (cole slaw) that I had tonight, I have been on the pot for an hour with the runs... Definate food trigger, now I know.Good luck!

I ordered the tapes about 6 weeks ago..and I've heard I'll get them next week.In the meantime I have been seeing a hypnotherapist/psychotherapist. I only see her for one hour every two weeks and to be honest with you it has helped me very gradually. (I've been seeing her for two months now). I can at least eat at work these days..I used to get D and gas at work so bad after breakfast and lunch that I would go without eating until I got off work!It has virtually eliminated the C for the past month. I was C,D alternating. It has definitley helped me although my therapist doens't have the experience that Mike Mahoney has with IBS. It is helping me with self-esteem and anxiety issues which are somehow related to my disfunctional digestion. I'm hoping a more intensive reinforcement of what I'm learning using the tapes will help even more. I really need to lower my gas/bloating factor so my coworkers can live with me!Jane

Jane, your tapes should be on the way next week for you.I used Mike's tapes and noticed better sleep right off the bat, however I noticed some improvements within the first week, but within thirty days things were really getting better.I think I am still the only one done with the program and it has been months and I am still doing really well. The tapes broke the vicious cycle of anxiety and attacks for me,gave me a better understanding of my thoughs and how I was reacting to the IBS and have pretty much reduce the symptoms to an occasional attack, done from around four a week to three in three in three months or so, this is by far the best thing I have done. When you use the program it becomes more clear how they work and why and then it makes more sense.------------------ http://webpotential.com/ericibs/index.htm

HiI'm nearly half done with the program and I noticed a difference the very first week. During the second week, I switched meds and had some bad reactions while my body adjusted, but did not change anything else. I'm still feeling the benefits, but mostly I've noticed how much more aware I am of tension and where/when I feel it. -Karen[This message has been edited by kbaum (edited 03-18-2000).]

Hi Peri:I'm on about day 48 of the tapes. What I noticed immediately was a reduction in stress. Around day 3 of the tapes I had a muscle spasm in my lower back which tends to lay me up for at least 3 to 4 days, with the stiffness not leaving altogether for 1-3 weeks. THe stiffness was gone in 2 days. My muscle spasms are generally due to stress, so I can only attribute the lack of stiffness to the relaxation techniques on the tapes. As for IBS cramping, I noticed within the first few weeks that cramps that normally would last hours were down to an hour, and not as painful.I alternate D and C, but since D is not usually a big problem with me can't say how it's affected that, except to say that when I do get it, it pretty much is gone in 1 to 2 bowel movements.I successfully went off Paxil, an anti-anxiety med, with very few withdrawal symptoms. (Only go off antti-anxiety and depression meds under your doctor's supervision because of withdrawal symptoms.) I'm doing very well, no anxiety, and my psychiatrist agrees with me that the tapes made a big difference.JeanG------------------Member of "The Advance Guard for the Ozone Rangers".May the "farce" be with you. I'm glad to see this has helped so many of you. I started a program about two weeks ago. I've noticed some small improvement but nothing drastic. I'm being patient, I just was wondering when other people began noticing changes. That's great to hear, thank you all.
