finally read one of these articles rather than just the abstracts which can be misleading. they took some actual pieces of colon muscle and found that the muscle was hyporeactive (under-responsive) to the contractile effect of tachykinins and that this particular impaired motorresponse to distencan be restored by NK2 and NK3 receptor agonists (agonists magnify while antagonists counteract).this seems to me to be a very simple and basic occurencs that might be accomplished through neurophysiologyand neurochemicals, hypnosis, or nutrition?the initial hyporesponsivity i would guess could arise from a variety of sources, such as inflammation, chronic stress, poor eating habits, smoking, etc., which would explain the varieties of ibs.tom
