There was also this article~"Daughter fights disease that killed mom""...Misdiagnosis...That is what happened to Fran Hockenyos of Raleigh, who was told by doctors for two years that she had irritable bowel syndrome, or worse, that her ailments were all in her head." http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/165...p-7880267c.html She was not tested for, but had, ovarian cancer--fourth among cancerous tumors that kill.Just one more possibility for women to consider, esp if there's sudden, unexplained weight loss.

Thats why its important tal for you to learn and understand the basics of how they diagnose IBS using Rome ll and soon rome lll and talk about it on the bb here, so people don't get misdiagnosed. But you never do. Your more interested in bacteria and inflammation and DR D's protocol.

Eric, if you saw my post you'd see that some doctors don't necessarily follow the criteria. Which is why many of us are on our own to find out what's causing our symptoms . . . unless we find a really good gastro doc. Easier said than done.Unfortunately, not all places have doctors like Drossman.

anmegrl, I did read your post. What do you think we can do about it here.Post what the Rome ll criteria are and have people print them take them to their doctor and have them ask there doctor if these are the criteria their doctors are using? That using it is a stable diagnoses?Post these top ten questions to ask your doctor? http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art...rticlekey=13683 Post articles like this and help people to understand the diagnoses as much as possible? The Rome Criteria Process: Diagnosis and Legitimization of Irritable Bowel Syndrome http://www.romecriteria.org/editorials.html Irritable Bowel Syndrome: How far do you go in the Workup? http://www.romecriteria.org/reading1.html Current Approach to the Diagnosis of Irritable Bowel SyndromeBy: George F. Longstreth, M.D., Chief of Gastroenterology, Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Plan, San Diego, CA Partcipate, IFFGD, 2001 http://www.aboutibs.org/Publications/diagnosis.html Try to help people understand the diagnoses and what questions to ask and help people with the terminology so they get an accurate diagnoses?Send people to websites like the UNC and the IFFGD and MAYO etc, for more accurate information from experts, instead of non experts and hype websites. All of the above probaly would have saved you from seeing so many drs and saved time, money energy, and worry.Nancy I tried to post that article but its a dead link at the moment and through the Globe its 2.95 to read it.

Eric-I wish I had gone to the Globe online the same day it was in the paper, when it was free. I subscribe to the Globe and I think its free for me so if I can figure out how to view it and post it I will. I thought it was a very good article and maybe was run because the mayor of Boston, Tom Menino was recently diagnosed and hospitalized with Chrons disease. Could have been just a coincidence though, the Globe may have been planning to run it anyway.

I have posted links to the rome criteria and to other reputable sites too - depending on the symptoms and my familiarity with them.I went to most of my docs before I found this site so it was an issue of too little, too late.I agree with your statements but I also agree that it is important to look outside the box and explore other areas when conventional methods aren't helping.

Roger-I wish I knew how to post that. I just got my Globe account number by calling them and can get into the archives for free. Obviously you were faster and better at it than me
Though there is really nothing NEW in the article as you said, I think the Globe appears to "get it". P.S.-Where in the area do you live? I live in Burlington.
