In about 2 weeks I have a day in which I have to attend two very important occasions, it will be imperative thaty I do not have to go to the bathroom ( I have IBS_diarreha) for at least 8 hours, in fact one place I will be for about 3 hours does not have one close by, should I begin a fast about 2 days before the occasion and eat very little and eat things such as bread, rice, cheese, and other foods that are binding? I am going to up my Immodium to about 4 tablets a day one or two days before the events, I also have Xanax for stress which I probably will take on the day of the events. Has anyone done this when they HAVE to go to important occasions? Any other hints will be appreciated. Thank YouPS-- What a shame we have to go through helljust to go somewhere that a normal person would not have to think twice about, it must be toomuch to ask of this life to just have 8 hours IBS free. I HATE THIS DISEASE!!!!

Hi Jade,I am sorry but I don't think fasting is a good answer. And I also am not a lover of continual high dosages of Immodium. I know that others here don't feel the same way, so you can use whatever tactic you feel will work for you. I don't know about the cheese, I am not so sure that it is binding for everyone. Eating light, healthy foods would be my suggestion and, if you have had success with Immodium that probably would not be the best time to stop it, but, if I were you, I would try to drop that habit and work on a higher fiber diet.

Hi Jade-I know it's not the best thing for my body, but if I know I have to go somewhere important, I don't eat that day. I am not sure how your IBS is, but for me I would only need to not eat anything that day or late the night before. Do you take Immodium often? The reason I ask is that I take 1 in precaution type situations and that stops me up for a good 2 days. Well,I hope that your long day is D-free. -Kayla

Jade, you have to weeks before you go, why dont you try the caltrate plus. I would think it much safer than all that immodium and all that worry about the bathroom. I think you are putting too much stress on yourself, relax, it might not be as bad as you think.

Hi kayla HI silver I take 2 immodium each day GI DOcs advise. So I have reaaallll bad ibs. Silver , You sound like you would be a great friend to take along for good advise, and someone to calm me down!! THANKS ALL!!
Jade,Try taking caltrate plus in the purple and white box. Take one with each meal and if you start now you will hopefully see a big difference right away. No diarrhea for me for more than a year with this and I suffered almost daily for 23 years after having my gall bladder removed. Good luck.Linda

I know with my stomach I would probably choose not to eat. It does'nt matter if I eat light or right just the pressure of having to go to it, would cause me to end up with D. I usually eat some pretzels or crackers so that the hunger pains don't get to bad. If there are some foods that you can eat that never bother you maybe you could try that. I don't have that security with any type of food yet. Your stronger then me, I don't think I could attend something that did'nt have a bathroom near by. Good Luck!!

Do you take the Caltrate before or after meals?? I am trying not to let this disease run my life, so I am going even with no bathrooms near by. I hate this disease so much, I have actually thought of trying to find a doctor who would do a colostomy on me, never to worry again about bathrooms and diarreha.

Jade,Take the Caltrate with meals according to the instructions. I have been taking it for less than a week and have noticed a huge difference. At first I was worried that I would need dynamite, but I am a big water drinker and I think I am adjusting to the calcium. I might add I took TumsEX for eons before I switched. Usually after I do have a bout of C I get D big time. This time I am becoming very normal.
Jade,I take my caltrate one with a meal but it just makes it easier to remember to take. Take 3 tablets one at a time through out the day. You should notice a difference right away.Linda Caltrate Plus purple and white box.
