Yes gottogo; I have this problem too !! My husband calls me "bugle butt", because every morning I sound off like an alarm clock. I fart off and on all day. I'm extremely gassy
I understand that it's embarrassing
. I do everything I can to not fart in front of other people. I know it's better to fart than to have the gas build up. That can be quite painful
. I can only suggest trying Beano or something like that. Don't let it get you down. Hope you feel better.

Have you changed your diet any? I too had this problem, but once I cut out all dairy products, I all but completely eliminated the toots.
It had got to be pretty embarrassing when my little 3 year old would yell out, "Mommy - you toot!"

Thanks for your replies. I have changed my diet. As a matter of fact I have had this for 33 years now. The only time I had relief was when I was pregnant with morning sickness. Strange huh? I would wake up and no toots for 3 months. Although I had nausua, but no toots. It gets old day after day. I asked my GI doctor about it and he said their was nothing they could do. I even asked if it could be hormone related, which he said it could be.

Hi gottogo! You're not the only one..I involuntarily let go in my sleep! Have woken myself up ,even
I am perimenopausal and have noticed a strong difference(strong, constant flatulence urge)when period time is approaching..irregular though it is. I don't even need a calendar on the wall to let me know about dates, dearie!!!
Yes hormones play a big part in it, but I am not able to take HRTherapy with my family history.Nevertheless, gyn problems or no, the IBS is there! You may want to discuss with your gyn about hormones or soy. bachiana

I have the same thing and feel the same way you do! Every morning without fail I have tons of gas and my stomach is swollen and hard like a pregnant woman. I eat the best low gas diet I can - I cut out dairy, only eat fruit once or twice a week, no beans, no cruciferous veggies (well maybe once every 2 weeks), low fiber, low sugar etc. and I still have tons of gas.

Huh?

You need to abstain from all food for at least two whole days and then see what happens to the gas volume.
Hey Flux..still here I see!Well, believe it or not there are tons of things that are hormone related that you wouldn't even BEGIN to imagine!!!!Just ask some women who have lived with it or some ob/ gyn's who have FINALLY allowed the free discussion during the office visit and are becoming more aware. Don't EVEN start in this area, flux!(you sure know how to get me going)

Frankly, I get a little board reading Flux's posts
. Every situation is a little different. I think it's entirely possible that hormones can cause all kinds of symptoms. I'm at the age now where I'm starting to expect some hormone changes myself
.

There doesn't seem there can be any physiological connection between the two, so it doesn't make sense to think this is possible.

Thank you Mr. Spock
. Sometimes IBS defies logic; and so do hormones

I pass wind all the time... I know it's specific foods that cause it more so for me... Also, if I haven't had a proper bowel movement in a few days (very normal for me)I pass wind alot... My husband get really really disgusted with me... ofcourse he does NOT have IBS and does NOT suffer constipation... I honestly don't think anyone can relate unless they have IBS!!!So don't worry you are not the only one!
Flux, I hardly have any gas when I don't eat. Maybe a little of my gas comes from swallowing because I have had constant post nasal drip for ten years but I belive most of it coems from bacteria feeding on food in the intestines.

Sounds like you have figured it out.
Another stinker here, I have had this for over 40 years. Diet helps cut back on the amount of gas but even then the wee bit that seeps out all the time is very stinky. For me sugars, starches, fruits and dairy are some of the things I try to avoid. I Didn't eat for 3 days once and still had the smell thing.

d-gasblaster.I just love the "bugle butt" thing. I'm a b.b. too. I'd rather fart than have trapped gas which causes lots of pain. Nothing keeps me from farting so now I just try to sneak it out. The stinky's come from carbs, broccoli, and beans for me, but vsl#3 has helped the smell. Thanks for a good laugh, that's really an endearing name.

I can tell Flux that you are a male. It may not make sense to you, however being a female it sure does to the rest of us when we live through it each day and each menstrual period with it.

Been there done that! Any other bright ideas?

At that time of the month when I had periods, I always had a change in my bm's. I would have more cramping before hand, and I wasn't a cramper. I also craved sweets, and had various other side effects. I also had PMS, which has got to be hormonal. Hormones do affect the gut, and I ain't no scientist. I believe they affect everything, especially in women. Men got the testosterone that isn't as wacky, as estrogen, progesterone. Women get many more illnesses then men, like gallbladder trouble, IBS. What's the reason? I won't even guess on what I think, but everything is a guess really.

No, it doesnt make scientific sense.
quote:Hormones do affect the gut, and I ain't no scientist.
Very true, but it doesnt follow that it could create gas.

and the result was?
