My blind daughter tried Caltrate for 6 weeks now - 1 tab with each meal - with NO improvement in IBS-D. I should not say NO improvement, but she cannot rely on it - she would have BM for 2 days and the suddely have 6 on the following day - all watery and runny. She then has to take Imodium as well. She changed to Calcium without the Magnesium - thinking the Mag was still causing the D - but still the pattern remains - no formed stools for more than 2 to 3 days - therefor I need advice urgently! Please, what else can we try? I often wonder if dr's really have ANY idea of the debilitating effect IBS-D has on patients. Oh yes just for interest sake - my daughter often has D during night hours - all tests were done - all neg. Dr says the norm is that IBS does not wake you during night hours, but patients differ en you do get patiens suffering from this during the night.Hoping to hear from anybody soon! Need help urgently (and desperately!!)
