They can work, I believe they are Calcium Carbonate which is what is in Caltrate (and it is the carbonate that you want). Caltrate has 600 mgs and some people may need that much at a time. Some people take 1/2 a caltrate which is 300 mgs.K.
Tums are made to dissolve more quickly and work in the stomach for acid. They are not usually the best for helping with diarrhea. The hard tablet like Caltrate takes longer to dissolve and makes it way to the intestines and does its work there.You can always try it but it may be better to take them in between meals so they are not used up in the stomach.Linda
