Have had the C type for 20 some years, with occasional mild, mild D during an attack. Now, I've had 2 D episodes in 3 days, and they have been bad. I thought having the C type was rotten enough, but I would just have to stay home with pains and constant trips to the potty for a day, then OK till next attack. But this D thing, omgosh, how do you deal with that-it comes on so sudden. Now I can understand how this IBS can keep a person housebound. I don't know if these are just some strange incidents or my IBS is changing. Which is stressing me out, the worst thing for any of us. I suffer from panic attacks also, which are brought on by any type of stomach unease, so this is really bringing to an ugly place. Guess I'll have to wait and see how this progresses.

Did you read my reply to your introductory "20 yrs" posting humbug? It happened to me, I was treated, and now am back to C-fiber/fluid diet controlled. I was there early at the chat and left around 10(central-time) or so. Have you changed anything in your diet or meds? If you were on antibiotics, birth control, or steriods, and this problem of D persists; tell your doctor about your change and ask him if he thinks it might be due to med-induced colitis. If he thinks there is that possibility, he may give you an antifungal. Otherwise he may ask for a stool sample to see if it might be a possible infection of some type. Hope you are doing better soon. It may just be a short-term bug like everyone gets once in a while that lasts for only a few days and is gone without necessary treatment. I experienced a relapse when I over-dosed on soy products. I've taken them out of my diet now, and will try again, maybe after 6mos. to a year, slowly introduce them again in small amounts. Good luck.------------------

BL - sorry to say that this thing can switch on you. I was D and just getting under control when within a week I was C. I went through three week of h*ll trying to just get by. But that's mostly because I panicked and didn't try too much to fix things. Don't worry - with all the info on D and C on this board if you switch, you have access to lots of different things to help you!
