I have an appt with my primary care physician at Kaiser in one week. I have not yet been referred to a gastroenterologist by her although I have asked to be. She diagnost me with IBS one year ago based on my symptoms (no tests). Do you think that there would be more that a gastroenterologist would be able to do to help me? My primary care physician has not been helpful. My help has come from IBS books and websites, a nutritionist, exercise, accupuncture and many supplements.

Wait a minute are you the specialist? I thought a doctor named Katherine is supposed to answer the questions in this forum. A colonoscopy is a very invasive test, I am thinking more like a consoltation and possibly a sigmoidoscopy.
