Normally i just roll with the punches and my D goes away after a a movement or two. Sometimes i do take Imodium AD for times when i need to go to work and don't want to be late or something like that. But when i use Imodium i tend to not have a bowel movement for the next day or two atleast. Is that normal for Imodium to have that effect? Also i've been reading a few threads and it seems quite a few people use Imodium daily. I normally don't have D daily, so i don't see a reason for me to take it daily. Does the continuous use of Imodium weaken its ability to stop D?

Yes for some people it backs them up for a couple of days.I am one of those people who take it daily, for about 5 years now. Immodium has been around for +20 years now and its considered safe to take daily indefinitely.Some people have found that they need to take more after a while to keep up its effectiveness, but like me, for most find it works fine even daily for years.

I don't see how, for me atleast, taking it daily or when i'm sick can be healthy since it isn't healthy to not have a BM everyday or two. Are there other meds that are more short term, i do take Pepto every once in awhile but i havn't tried to remember how it effects me the next few days.

You may want to try Lomotil. I find it is not as long lasting as Imodium. If I take two in the morning and two with lunch I am back to D the next morning. If I have to travel I do "Lomotil with a kick." Two Imodium, two Lomotil an hour later and two more Lomotil with lunch. No problems going the next day.

I use immodium almost every day, and i have spoken to several specialists about it, and they see no problem with taking it daily, although its not reccomended to take more then 3 if you are using all the time. I find that if i take 2/3 in the morning, then i dont have that 'urgency' which is my biggest problem.Im the same when i first started taking immodium it would constipate me for a day or two.
