This isn't a common thing with me, but I've noticed sometimes my gas... but I notice it more with my BM's, are very sulphuric. It's pretty pungent - eggy to the max. Just for a second or two straight after I've gone... then seems to dissipate very quickly. It's just very bizarre, and I can't figure out what causes it?At the minute my system seems a bit screwed up anyway, due to an early period which always makes it worse, which was brought on by stress... which itself is making it worse, and irregular meals.

There is a type of bacteria that lives in some people's colons. They are considered normal flora but some people have a lot of them, and some people have a lot of other kinds. The Sulfur Reducing Bacteria make the sulfur smelling gases that can be found in farts and feces.Hydrogen sulfide is the main one but there are a few others. You eat sulfur in your food every single day (every thing with protein in it, even tiny amounts of protein) and some things like onions and garlic have other non-protein sulfur compounds. When any of that is not absorbed by you (and no one absorbs all of it) and you have those bacteria in your colon they turn the amino acids with sulfur in them into gases that smell like sulfur (as they have sulfur in them) as part of their digestion. For some people taking pepto-bismol helps as bismuth compounds absorb those gases even when they are inside your body.
