I have been having a lot of trouble with my IBS lately - I have a flareup and my D seems to be alternating with C now. In any case, will return to my GI specialist soon as I can. I had my last colonoscopy a few years ago. If he suggests I have another, dread doing so and am wondering about asking for a virtual one which I have heard about. Has anyone had this procedure, and if so, is it easier to undergo? Any replies would be most appreciated.

Prep is the same and they don't put you under so you do feel a bit like a balloon that is being overinflated. Still, nothing is being inserted which is a comfort and just when you can't stand it anymore you are done.I can't compare it to a real one; but when I have to have another I will ask for the same procedure. Mark is right.Same prep, same inflation. they don't put you under. Some people find the inflation painful, especially with IBS so some people prefer a procedure where they can be put under. On the other hand, without sedation you don't really lose the whole day to being groggy afterward. The main drawback to the virtual colonoscopy is that if they see a something (a polyp that needs to be removed or something they want to biopsy) then they have to follow up with a regular colonoscopy.
