Vitamins caused my IBS. I only have symptoms when I take vitamins. My problem is with C, not D. I thought that iron caused constipation. Anyone else?

Kenneth, I too, experience D when taking iron supplements. Since discontinuing the high iron vitamins, my symptoms have virtually disappeared. Take a multi vitamin with B vitamins (I take a generic One a Day), as they are absorbed, not stored in the body, and a few of the B vitamins can actually alleviate IBS symptoms. I also chew Tums EX-2 tabs twice daily for a total of 1200mg. I chew 2 in the a.m., 2 with dinner. My multi vitamins have vit D in them, which aids in the absorption factor of the calcium. Hope this helps!!Christy

Iron is usuually known to cause C. I imagine you have some black stooling. Don't know if that iron is too harsh on your colon and causing for you D or if it could be something else. I've heard too much Magnesium can cause D. I am also an advocate of the B complex vitamins but have to use the non-brewers yeast kind as it causes problems with my IBS. ------------------

Hi, iron is supposed to cause C. It did me but I took it with vitamin c to help absob it and didnt get any C, only darker stools. I think your suppose to take the calcium with your meal, and it is the caltrate plus that you take because it has other vitamins in it to help bind things. If you take the one with magnesium for the C IBS. Hope this ansewer your questions.

For me it doesn't matter if you take the calcium before during or after just take it regular and it really helps control the diarrhea. Take one three times a day.Linda
