I am trying to find out what suppliments might help my IBS-D condition... besides Immodium. I have looked on the Web and read about all these different great pills, Like, Bavolex. Anyone try any of these?

I would stick to the often much cheaper available at your local supplement store or pharmacy things that people on this board have found to work. Read around a bit and check out the stories section to see that often the same old same old (like el cheapo generic calcium supplements from the pharmacy for diarrhea) did more good than any expensive supplement with many testimonials written by ad executives who may not even have a really good understanding of which disease is being targeted for the desperate this week.Often the really expensive supplements sold on the web (but if you buy 4 bottles at $100 each you get 6 free!!! or whatever the going rate is these day) put the same sorts of ingredients in them you can get for a lot less without having to buy a year's worth to get the price down. These websites all have very similar hype 99.99% cured and 100% money back guarantee (make sure you read the fine print as it often is hard to meet whatever they say you have to do to get that money back, like take it every day for 6 months or do the whole program, or whatever) they have found the one combination of the same stuff everybody puts in all these things that will cure cure cure you and no one else will be able to help. All we ever see is people coming on here posting the name and asking if anyone used them. We've even found ads on Craig's list where some people get paid to post that question on as many message boards, etc. as possible. If you have to pay people to generate some word of mouth I wonder how good the product can really be.Anywho. If the website you are interested will even tell you what special ingredients are in them I would at least price out getting something similar from the store before you plunk down the money. A lot of those sites either don't list the ingredients, or make is to hard to find them (But every page tells you how theirs must be more special than everyone else's, so special we won't even tell you what they are half the time

Thanx K - It is all so confusing. My wife is telling me to take 'something" to help my D and we both read all these wild stories on the web and think - wow. Then we see the prices these people are asking and do a double wow - no thanks. However, if anything out there can work to lessen my D when I get my flare ups, I would jump at it. The Doctor hasn't been much help and these darn bouts just seem to flare up at the worst times. I sure wish there was something I could take that at least min the big D risk except Imm

I've stopped my D and GERD (and dramatically lowered my heart attack risk, according to my doctor's software) with a flavonoid supplement I have taken for the past 11 years. (It comes with 11 years of clinical testing on its cardio effects. They now seem to be getting preliminary data on its anti-inflammatory effects.) I suspect I wouldn't have had the same results with vitamin store grape seed or we would have some convincing studies available and Lipitor would not be such a big seller. You just never know.Mark

So is the suppliment called Flavanoid? Is it in usa? Doctor presc or over counter?Thanx
It is called Provex CV and is sold by its developer/manufacturer to its membership, on line or by phone. I have tried to put together as much relevant info as I can on this thread. http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?t...ibs&tid=186 (Response 7 and 9). If it makes sense to you, drop me a line.Cheers,Mark
