I see that some of you on this board have lost weight from IBS. I have found that I have gained several lbs. since I first started getting symptoms from my IBS-D. Has anyone else gained weight or just stayed the same?

Hi, Steph! Yes, I belong to the same club as you. I think Torpedo Butt said she gains weight when she gets real bad D, too. It's interesting. When I get a real bad spell, I actually gain weight. I think everybodies metabolism is different, and mine seems to say "hey, we're loosing a lot of fluid here," and I retain weight.Since I found this board a month ago, and have been taking Caltrate and have modified my diet to a low carbohydrate diet, my D has almost disappeared (have had two short spells) and i have lost 6 pounds! And I haven't even tried to lose the weight. So, its interesting how everybody is so different...

Hi Steph & Lefty
YES!! Unfortunately, I have gained 50 lbs in the last 10 years, 25 of it in the last 3!! (which is when my "D" really started getting bad). I really don't understand it either, and I HATE IT. Maybe it has to do with something like this scenario: If you stop eating completely, you will lose a few pounds at first, but soon your body will start hoarding anything it can get it's hands on, and you will stop losing weight. Just a possibility. I am having a physical on July 14th, and I'm going to hound my Dr. for some answers to this and my other problems - and I'm not walking out of there without answers, tests being scheduled, etc. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS GARBAGE.
I'll let you know everything I find out.
