In my mailbox yesterday, a cheery pre-Halloween message in the IFFGD Newsletter (International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders). By the way, I'm not a member. Anyone can get their newsletters on request."We have developed our first Public Service Announcement for television about irritable bowel syndrome. We are pleased that we have been able to develop and produce this on our own. IFFG will once again take the lead to educate the public about IBS. Look for us on television over the next few months."That's the best news. They are also sponsoring a traveling exhibit called "Turning Inside Out, The Art of Living With IBS," in which artists or anybody are welcome to contribute any mix of painting, drwaing, print, ceramic, sculpture, metal, mixed media, design, photography and poetry. This will travel to Rome for the 7th United European Gastroenterology Week meeting on Nov 13-17. I hope Jeffrey doesn't have a problem with this, but it's supported by Novartis. The IFFGD # is 888-964-2001. Maybe some of you? These little newsletters to me are highly informative. There was an interesting little piece called "Challenging the Myths Associated with IBS" by a Canadian psychiatrist with such subtopics as "Myth: Patients with IBS may 'benefit' from the 'sick role.'' "Myth: People with IBS are difficult patients," and so on. Novartis also had an item about HTF 919A (presumably, Zelmac) explaining what it is, how it works and what Phase the study is now in. And there was a highly interesting and unusually clear explanation of 5HT, Receptors and IBS -- the differences between agonists and antagonists -- that I think I'll post it separately.

As I have mentioned in past posts, hearing good news from the medical community is the only hope I have. Searching for alternative methods has not helped me, and antidepressants seem not to be the 'control' I need. So hearing great news about drugs on the horizon makes me jump for joy! Maybe someday I, and all of you, can live a normal and emotionally healthy life. ROCK ON!!!!LALA

LaLa, I don't know you very well, but am I wrong -- I seem to notice an entire changed attitude in you since you came on!? Maybe the Paxil withdrawal finally "took." You were very discouraged, I think -- and now I detect a certain measure of optimism -- well, OK, a LOT of optimism!!
