I am so thrilled to find out that I am not alone suffering from IBS. I do have a couple qeustions however. I was diagnosed several years ago and generally feel fine--sometimes D and sometimes C but I have a lot of pain at times which isn't associated with either. Lately, I have been having excruciating pain at night which has woken me up. I just recently started eating a couple prunes because of C and am wondering if that could cause this pain. Also, I sometimes have pain when walking which feels like it's in my left hip in the back. Does anyone have similar symptoms? I really dont' want to go back to the doctor if it's just IBS but this pain is freaking me out. Also, I have tired Doxepin for pain but it makes me so lethargic that I can't take it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated! NWK------------------

Hi! Yes, finding this group has been a blessing! I'm into sharing information and general help for the benefit of others. I had an anorectal abscess (abscess in the anus). However, on the onset, I thought it was a hemorroid. So of course I tried Prep H, thinking it would relieve the pain. The next day, I ended up in the ER and when the doc did a rectal exam, the abscess burst. Until then, I NEVER heard of anyone having an abscess there... My point in all this is please go to the doctor and have your pain checked out. It could be something, then again I get soreness pain in my left hip from sitting so much on the john due to IBS. Nevertheless, don't play guessing games when it comes to pain. Pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong. As far as painkillers, Vicodin ES(not plain Vicodin) helps me with pain greatly but does not make me lethargic. I guess it also depends on how big or small you are in girth and stature? That should be something you should point out to your doctor when s/he's medicating you.Blessings,John

Hello there! Welcome to the board NWK. You will find lots of support and advice here.I agree with John. Please go see your Doc as as possible. Pain does not need to be put up with for too long.I'm a C & D, but they alternate quite regularly, but I don't tend to suffer a lot, but when I do get a bout, OUCH! I do get pain, and realy bad gas, etc. You would know the entire liteny.Don't delay, see your Doc as soon as you can and get that pain looked at my dear.Ciao------------------Love, peace and many groovies...Kerry
