I am new to this forum and am very pleased to have found it. It is really helping me make sense of everything I feel. I thought I was alone on this one. I am IBS - D, I have recently been diagnosed and my doctor told me to stay away from Lettuce and Caffine. I was wondering what do other IBS - D types eat? I have gotten severe D from a plain turkey sand on a pita or a PB&J sand. And other days it does not bother me at all. I can't seem to figure out what foods trigger a bout of D and what does not. Every Friday I order pizza, same place, same type - pepper and onion I always eat 2 slices and sometimes I am up all night with D and other nights I'm Fine. I am very frustrated with this whole thing. Any suggestions...

G$mny: Welcome aboard. We are glad that you are here. Isn't it nice to know that you do not suffer alone? I thought the same thing when I found this board over a year ago. I don't come to this board very much any more, as I seem to gravitate to the Meeting Place. As far as trigger foods are concerned, I have had IBS for 29 yrs. and I still don't really know what my trigger foods are. Just like you sometimes I can eat something and its just fine, and the next time I indulge I,m off to the bathroom. That is one of the frustrating things about this curse. Mikeno lomitil has an interesting thread on his trigger foods, if you can understand it, its all greek to me.. He might be able to help you. Welcome again. Maro

Keep a food journal...include how stressed out you are on a particular day...see the Food Journal thread on this page!!! Good luck to you!
Hi G$MNY.As Maro said, you are in the right place. What you are experiencing is almost standard procedure for a lot of people with chronic bowel problems, IBS-D and otherwise.I can go through my stuff an clip out some pointers here and there to help understand the difficulty in finding what is setting you off. And it may have absolutley nothing to do with what you ate an hour or two before you got sick. It could be something you took in 36 hours ago manifesting itself. But it could also have nothing to do with that either if the right workup was not done ruling out everything that is NOT IBS before the Scarlet Letter(s) got hung on you.BUT the first thing most people including myself will do is ask if you have been worked-up by a Board Certified Gastroenterologist. I know you said you have a doc's diagnosis of IBS, but sometimes if it is not a BCGE or a really forward thinking preventive medicine,allergy/immunology doc or the like, the diagnosis means (in the docs mind) "my work is finished here". Caffeine and lettuce..well caffeine is a gimme since anybody can get cramps and D from caffeine, and ditto for lettuce and the like. So, unless there is much more to tell, I do not want to send you off self-diagnosing and treating unless the background work was done by a competent physician. This site is a tremendous "self-help" area once the basics have been done (infection, antibiotic and other causes evaluated an ruled out).So before we all start giving advice, help us out. Where you at with the doc and what is she/he? tests done? results? (specifics). If you are not being worked up by a BCGE is it possible for you to run do that quick...if not today, soon? Thanks. We look forward to talking with you here.MNL
