A GI is a Gastroenterologist (tummy doctor). I wonder why it's abbreviated as such.Stacey

They meant a "gastro-intestinal" infection. But, I still wonder why tummy doctors are referred to as GIs. Maybe because they used to be called gastro-intestinal doctors?Hmmm.Stacey

Two terms are usedGastroenterology is more formalGastro-Intestinal is usually less formal.But GE is a company that makes appliances so I think the GI gets used more as the abbreviation than GE.I have a GE infection....the mold in the refrigerator
