I am IBS-C and need gum to calm my nerves....since I gave up alcohol and my vices. Occasionally I will want to chew gum but most bother my tummy. Are there any types out there that won't upset our tummies?
Chewing gum for some people can be a good way to introduce extra air into the stomach which can cause upset and is not dependant on what type of gum you chew.Sorbitol is present in alot of sugarless gum and that may loosen stools so might be OK for IBS-C's IF the gum chewing in and of itself doesn't bother you.If your going to chew gum most of the time stick with the sugarless kinds as they are better for your teeth.K.------------------I have no financial, academic, or any other stake in any commercial product mentioned by me.My story and what worked for me in greatly easing my IBS: http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum17/HTML/000015.html
