Hello
I have had Ulcerative Colitis since I was just 10 years old, and the only tests I have had have been 4 colonoscopies. I've never had an upper GI or a lower GI or any of the other tests I've read about on here. As far as the colonoscopies go, they're really not so bad once you get past the prep. The gallon of stuff you have to drink tastes, wellllllll, NASTY. It tasted like hot, salty plastic to me...that's the best way I know to describe it. So after you manage to choke that down (drink it with a straw too....it will go down faster!!), prepare to be in the bathroom the rest of the day. That gets old after a while, but take something good to read in there with you, and the time will pass more quickly. Once you are all cleaned out, the test itself is a breeze, or at least it was for me. I always sleep all the way through them, and I've never felt a thing. Afterwards you will be sore and a little sleepy, but that's about all
This is the only test I've had, but I hope this helps!! Maybe somebody else could explain the other tests, I'd like to learn more about them myself!! Take care

P.S. I have read on here that there are even better preps available nowadays!! Since my last colonoscopy, I've been pregnant (unfortunately I had a miscarraige, but while I was pregnant I was very sick...) and my gag reflex is BAD now. So I doubt I'd be able to choke down the gallon stuff now. Someone posted that they had a prep of Dulcolax pills and an enema in the morning. I'd say ask for THAT prep FIRST, Heehee
Never hurts to ask, and BELIEVE ME, I will be asking for it next time
Good luck!!
