From one thing to the next.....Had a SEVERE attack about 8 days ago. It felt as if my insides were being ripped apart from the severe cramping. Anyway, for about 6 days after that I had on and off severe cramping and D, which I treated with Imodium. I missed work just about all last week due to this. I called my Dr. and he gave me Lotronex to try out. I started taking 2 pills a day on Sat. (Sunday I only took one since I woke up very late.) I guess since having the D, taking all of the Imodium, and now the new medication, I'm all backed up. This is the 5th day without a bowel movement and I'm getting aggravated. I'm not in severe pain or anything, just very bloated and a little uncomfortable. What should I do???? I'm afraid to do anything too drastic because I fear a cramping attack. Any suggestions? I guess we can't win, can we?? Thanks!! Gina

Gina, I wouldn't go that long without a movement. I would use a supposatory after the second day to get things saftened up. If that didn't work a small ennama. But since you have the cramping etc. I would call the Doctor if I were you. Good luck Hope everything comes out OK

Stool softners, like colace/pericolace might be helpful at this point. A magnesium supplement might be tried or good 'ol MOM (Milk of Mag.). A suppository, might be helpful like Joyce suggested too. Then try a fleet enema if no results. Also drink lots of hot herbal tea/ or filtered H20. Once you get things moving, continue with natural fiber and the liquids. I hope you are feeling better soon GinaC.

Have you tried fibogel? If you are tolerant to fibre and it doesnt cause more cramping, I recommend this with lots of water. Its a natural fibre supplement available in most chemists/pharmacies.Also, have you tried Yakult. This is a fermented milk drink. You only need a small amount each day. It contains good gut bacteria and seems to soften the stool too, a bit.Hope you find some answers here.I shall say a prayer for your health.God bless al

Hi Gina,I'm having the same situation. I had a miserable weekend of *D* and debilitating cramping. My doctor gave me an Rx for Lotronex and gave me some samples. It isn't coverd by my HMO
I've been taking 2 per day since Monday. It was like a miracle! I noticed that the pain in my left side gradually subsided and I haven't had any cramping or *D* all week. But, neither have I had a BM all week!!! It is getting a bit uncomfortable, although I don't have too much bloating. I think the above suggestions are excellent. I'm trying Fibercon and eating prunes, adding fiber (slowly) to see if this will correct the *C* situation - which I have never experienced!! I've always been a *D* type. I hesitate to cut back on the Lotronex because it has been heaven to be pain free all week. Good luck and let us know how things are working out!!!
