I have been through a series of test which all came out negitive. The GI Doctor cant find anything wrong with me. When the nurse called to give me my results she said the DR. said "Follow up with us as needed". They didn't offer any treatment plan or advice. Follow up as needed? I have need help with this every single day of my life for the past 3 1/2 years! I am so angry! I know there is no "cure" and it isn't my DR. fault I am sick, but this is the 2nd GI DR. I have seen and I feel like I am being blown off! I can hardly fuction day to day. I avoid leaving the house as much as possible. If I have to leave for some reason, I have to starve myself for the day. I am so tired and am getting depressed over this. I need help, why can't they offer me something to try? Why do I have to figure it out on my own?
What would you suggest?

I smypathize completely!! Had the same experience. I actually got less help from a GI specialist than from my family doc!! It's pathetic I know but indeed you do have figure it out yourself. You're in the right place. Look around on this board. Look at the calcium information and the probiotic information. Those things have helped a lot of people (including me). There's also soluable fiber, flavanoids, and you should do some research on common trigger foods for IBS.Keep looking and keep trying things. Maybe someday doctors will catch up with us!!

When I was diagnosed, my doctor was plenty sympathetic, but pretty useless as to suggestions. I think it's because IBS is such an individual thing - what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. Is it possible for you to find a different doctor you can just bounce ideas off for things to try? I did that with mine - I came to this BB, found several things I wanted to try, discussed them with my doc, and we came up with a sort of plan for me to try various things in a specific order - starting with very simple diet changes and working my way up to prescription meds. I finally found relief with Questran - it's a prescription med that is easy on my system. I think in the case of IBS, you have to be very proactive and not count on a doctor to give you all the answers.Marty
My doctor and I have to work closely together sometimes week by week but mostly month by month. My symptoms change and the meds change along with it. There is no one answer and all we can do is try to stay on top of them as they come. Right now I am scheduled to see another GI and have and upper endoscopy and tomorrow I will have another CAT scan. I will have endoscopies once a year because of my ulcers and GERD and the CATs are because my pain is so severe that he wants to make sure that there is nothing else going on. In the past I had to have my gallbladder and a portion of my liver removed. Then I had a complete hysterectomy. Right now my doctor is thinking that i may need to have additional surgery so he wants to see what is going on. My blood work is also not normal so he needs to see what is causing it. I get enough pain and trouble from my IBS. I do not need anything else.
