Just another topic for discussion....When you get attacks of "D" do you instinctively stop eating and/or drinking? Here's my experience....When the "D" hits I naturally stop eating and drinking. This is less due to the fact that I'm not hungry or thirsty and more due to not wanting to have to go to the toilet. I know hoe irrational this is and also that's it's good for you. Mind you I never let myself get dehydrated although I think I may have come close at times. When I have a fairly serious flare-up it is not uncommon for me to go many days (upwards of a week) without eating much at all. Maybe a piece of toast for the day....a little plain potato.Again I know how irrational this sounds but it's how I tend to cope....especially if I have a lot of deadlines....i.e.: things that I have to attend and can't easily get away from.Anyone else? Inquiring minds wanna know!

I pretty much do the same. I had D last night and haven't had anything today except toast and water. I will probably eat some crackers too. I usually have to do this for a couple of days to get my stomach feeling better. I'm always amazed how long I can go with eating very little food!

Julee,I am amazed as well. Although I guess I could afford to loose a few extra pounds....It's interesting how little I need for such an extended period of time. There are times I get so hungry....my stomach and my guts fight for who can grumble the loudest.Let me tell you a Quarter Pounder with cheese sounds awefully good right now...but I think that will have to wait for a few weeks.

About Six years ago....after I was diagnose dwith IBS (after all the tests) I was talking to my GI Doc. Yes belive it or not I actually have a GI Doc you can talk to. He told me that in my case since food doesn't appear to be a trigger that I could probably eat whatever I want during attacks and that it would most likely have littl eor no effect.I wish I could take that to heart...but the fear fact is just to great.

No way I can eat...
or even drink
When the attacks use to be really bad with D I would be so scared to eat...I would always start back eating with little bites...Even If I had to make a sandwich and cut it in 4 little pieces and eat on it for hours...but I was able to eat more doing it that way...

I do the same thing. I also don't eat when I have to travel and usually don't the whole time I'm out of town. I know it's not good, but it's the only way I can guarantee that I won't get the big D. Once I start eating again, I usually get sick and I know it's because I haven't been eating. I'm already a little person, so I know I shouldn't do that, but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?
