I have IBS "d" and am trying Benefiber in am & pm but so far it is not helping. Am curious if you find Citrucel or Metamusel or Benefiber works for you. And do you take tablets or liquid products.I need something to firm up my movements. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks Calid, It has seemed to me that the "d" was worse than better, and giving me a lot of gas.I'm going to stop taking it and try some other product. Perhaps it's time to try the Caltrate method. Do the Citrucel and Metamusal have the same effect on the "d"? If so I don't want to try them either.

I use something called Fiberwise--a mixture of soluble and insoluble with probiotics and some herbals. It has helped in densifying, but I can't imagine it stopping d all on its own. This past month I have added omega 3 oil, which I have heard was helpful, and am delighted with the results. If it is just some firming you are after, give it a try for a month and see if it works for you.

Just a note to the thread--I tried Citrucel pills and powder on the advice of my gastro doc. I have IBS "D". I stopped after a few days because I was so much worse.I take 10 mg Bentyl 3 x a day and Lomotil 2 x a day if I am not going out after work, but if I am going out in the evening I add another Lomotil and sometimes an Imodian to the mix. I get through life, but just don't feel good most of the time. I do the treadmill 1/2 hr. in the a.m. 5 days a week for stress. Also, at night I take a .50 Ativan to sleep. I know this isn't the greatest, but like I said I get through the day.Hope this helps.

I had to try lots of different fibers, you may also as we all tolerate fibers differently. Here's my regimen: One calcium caltrate 600D pill with breakfast, one again with dinner. Then around 9 pm I take one Calcium Polycarbophil fiber pill (generic). Of course, the best thing to do is to change your diet, my diet is based on Eating for IBS. It's low fat, no dairy, no red meat, etc. etc.. .. . If I follow the diet and take my pills right, I seem to be fine. If I eat something off the diet, even with the calciums I have problems. I tried the no carb diet and it didn't work, the blood type diet won't work as many of the foods on my list are triggers for me. So, trial and error is really the only way to find your safe niche.
