I was just diagnosed with IBS. I have not had a discussion with my dr. yet, only had the colonoscopy and told I had IBS. I was wondering why my lower back hurts severly after I eat. I also have a lot of gas, but it is hard to get out. I drink mylanta at each meal and chew tums all day, have tried beano and gas-x...nothing helps. ANy suggestions would be helpful. thanks

I would be careful about chewing tums all day."Antacids that contain magnesium may cause diarrhea. Yep, I get back pain alot when I'm flared up. I even get pain in both of my flanks that can become severe. I am assuming that this is caused by spasms and/or gas. Chewing tums all day is a bad idea. If Gas X won't help (it dosen't do #### for me either), try eating a smaller amount of food and see if that helps. It's worth a shot.
