I'VE BEEN LIVING WITH IBS-D FOR 7 YEARS NOW GOING THOUGH THE UP'S AND DOWNS TRYING THIS AND THAT WITH NO CURE IN SIGHT. HOW WOULD YOU EVEN KNOW WAHT A NORMAL DAY IS. I FORGOT THE FEELING OF A NORMAL URGE TO GO USE THE BATHROOM AND BE ABLE TO HOLD IT FOR HOURS AT A TIME. TO WAKE UP AND TO NOT BE THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THE BATHROOM, TO EAT OUT AND NOT WONDER IF A REST ROOM IS AROUND. THIS WILL TAKE YEARS TO GET OUT OF YOUR MIND EVEN IF YOU ARE CURED AND JUST FROM THINKING ABOUT IT CAN CAUSE MORE TROUBLE THAN ACTUALLY BEING SICK. SO WHAT'S NORMAL DO ANY OF USE REMEMBER WHAT IT'S LIKE TO HAVE A NORMAL PAIN FREE DAY. LIFE WAS GREAT BEFORE I EVEN KNOW WHAT IBS WAS, AND COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT IBS, NOW IT'S THE BIGGEST THING IN MY LIFE IT CONTROLS ME, IT LEADS ME, IT DOMINATES MY LIFE 24/7. GOD HELP US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it would work the same way...when you started having IBS symptoms it increases your anxiety level and you start focusing on it more...if your lucky enough to find a therapy or treatment that works, your stress level will go down and you'll probably forget alot of the pain you went through. Iknow this sounds hard to believe, but it can happen.. I've had IBS forover 20 years now, and for a period of about 2 years it pretty much subsided to where I never thought about it..almost like I never had it! . I was eating all same foods I used to, going the bathroom the same, and having no pain throughout the day.

I think most of us know exactly how you feel. I certainly do. IBS has been a major issue in my life for about 15 yrs now. The desparation you feel can subside, but you have to help it. If you mind affects your IBS symptoms like mine does, then it makes sense that your mind can help you reduce your IBS symptoms. I would talk with Eric about Mikes tapes for starters. They have help me quite a bit.One of the hardest things for me to learn was not to feel embarrassed about something you have no control over. IBS is a disease. I have it, and I'm not ashamed to let people know if I start to have symptoms. For me, doing this helps reduce the symptoms because I no longer feel as though I am hiding something. And you would be amazed at how many people I met who had the same illness. Oh, I still have a hard time flying in airplanes and going to restraurants, but my symptoms have reduced, to almost nil in some instances, to where I can almost have a good time once in a while.
