JorH, i have been taking acidophilus for about a year now, and I have recently started taking enzymes with every meal as well. They have helped me to get my symptoms somewhat under control. I still have flare ups, but not as many. I have also found that yoga and walking help alot.

Hi Jor,I too am taking enzymes - and have reduced my dosage down to just 2 capsules per day now - but have got great relief, from my IBS C.I am in New Zealand and the product I came across on the web, is also made in NZ and it is called Zylax.I noticed that the manufacturer has placed a post on the products and website section of this bulletin board. But just to quickly tell you a bit of what I know about Zylax. It is based on kiwifruit, and the extraction of a digestive enzyme complex from the fruit. As I have been told there is a theory that if you digest all your food properly, you help to avoid the development of dysfunctional digestion and symptoms such as Constipation, Gastric Reflux, and even IBS developing, at the same time complete and normal digestion helps to provide some relief from those symptoms as well.Zylax then is designed to help you digest your food properly, by topping up your bodies reserves of digestive enzymes, which in turn helps to relieve and prevent the symptoms of dysfunctional digestion. How has it worked for me??? Well as I said I suffer from IBS C - and have been taking Zylax for approximately 4 months. Since discovering Zylax I have had reasonably regular, pretty much pain free BM's, have felt less bloated and gassy and feel that I am emptier than I have ever been, it really has been a great relief for me.That doesnt mean it would work for everyone - but you never know until you try!The thing in particular with Zylax, is that it is a completely natural product, which means you can take it in conjunction with any other meds you may be on.Anyway there is a lot of enzyme products about these days - but if you want more info about Zylax - just put a .com after the name and you will go through to the website.Give it a go Jor, it certainly is a great way to get relief if it works for you instead of pumping yourself full of all those drugs!CheersMax

I tried enzymes and they didn't seem to work. I tried one that an MD prescribed to be, didn't work. And a couple weeks ago I started taking one given to me from a Naturopath, which hasn't worked either. It's all very disappointing, since it had been my assumption that I just wasn't producing the right enzymes. I've run out of theories as to what's causing these problems for me.

Hi Mloser,I am wondering how long you have tried taking the enzyme products before you have given up.Hopefully your naturopath will have told you that these products can take some time to work in terms of initially helping you to get back to normal digestion. It took me 3 weeks of taking two capsules before each meal - so 6 capsules a day before I noticed any impact of the product. It could be longer than this for some people, it all depends on the level of enzymes in your body. If you have a severe deficiency then it will take longer than 3 weeks for you to notice any effect, on the other hand if you dont have a severe deficiency in your enzymes then it could well take less than 3 weeks for you to notice an effect of the product.I know that these products dont necessarily work for everyone, but thought that I should point out that they are not drugs, so they wont necessarily have an immediate impact on your condition.Something to think about anywayCheersMax

Hey, Max. As of today it'll be exactly 2 weeks for me. I still plan to keep taking them until my bottle runs out, so hopefully they'll start to work by then. Your experience has made me hopeful about them again :s

About a year ago, before my hysterectomy and gallbladder removal I had alot of yeast infections and went on a special diet to kill off the yeast excess in my system..... I was diagnosed with IBS recently after suffering all of the common symptoms on this board for the last two months. I'm now wondering if there is a connection somehow. I'm going to try going back on my yeast/killing diet and see what happens. I couldn't be more bloated/balloon/gassey,C & D, serious pains in lower right abdomen and back aches etc. Time is passing waiting for my appointment with the Gastro-Guy-Specialist anyway...... HMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm

My IBS problem is mainly upper gas from the lower right side and losing weight and tire all the time. Cant seem to go up from 97 lbs and I am 5'5". I just started taking this enzymes that has like 14 diff enzymes. The 2nd day I took it I had major lower right side pain and slight fever I was wondering if it is giving me a negative reaction. Looks like its getting back to normal slowly after the 5th day of taking it so I will keep taking it and see what happen.
