The colon gets more active after every meal every human eats. With functional GI pain (whether IBS or other functional bowel pain issues) the act of eating often triggers pain.Sometimes taking something to calm the gut down before a meal helps.Unfortunately this sort of thing tends to start a cycle of starving oneself for as long as possible then finally eating when you can't take it anymore. The problem is the longer you wait to eat the more active the colon becomes after eating and the worse the symptoms are. Small frequent meals often work better if you can get into that pattern. Have you been given any antispasmodics, have you tried taking them 20-30 minutes before a meal.Have they tried you on a tricyclic antidepressant or a SNRI? Cymbalta treats pain as well as depression. The pain nerves use the same neurotransmitters the mood nerves use so the same drug treats both. For some people mind-body therapies work not because it is all in your head, but because it changes the conversation your brain and gut have with each other and if you can shift it to one that helps ramp down the pain it can make a huge difference.
