Hello Everyone,I just got this article from the Financial Times of London dated 5/31/01:Novartis and Bristol-Myers Squibb on Thursday pulled a crucial drug from the approval process in Europe, in a a move that will hurt revenues at both companies.The two pharmaceutical companies, among the world's largest, said that a disagreement over clinical results had caused them to withdraw Zelmac, a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome from which they have agreed to share sales.Zelmac is still expected to be cleared soon by regulators in the US, the world's largest market, but the withdrawal in Europe is a clear setback. At least this is encouraging for the people that need it in the US!The article contines and also says:Analysts said the Zelmac withdrawal stemmed in part from differences in Europe and the US over the diagnosis and treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.Let's hope that the drug will be approved soon for everyone that needs it in the US for IBS©.
