I have suffered from IBS for over 5 years. After being told 1000 times that all I need to do is eat more fibre, I found a doctor who prescribed Zelnorm to me because I told him to. It worked the first day I took it and then it didn't work for a couple of weeks and then I started eating even more fibre and gave myself bad gas and stomache pains and it was still not really working. I do not see significant results and my bowel movements are still very irregular and I sometimes go weeks without a good movement. I read about taking a break from Zelnorm because you can become immune to it and I did this, but I still did not see any changes and I still get bloating and abdominal pain and gas all of the time.I dont think that I have been properly diagnosed. I'm 25 years old. I'm going to get referred to a specialist. Some of the symptoms for IBS are very similar to those of colon cancer. My friend's mom was told for years that she had IBS. She died of cancer 2 years ago. I dont mean to scare any of you but I think that with problems in the bowels, you should be checked out for everything. Can you tell me how you were diagnosed with IBS?
