Hi, About a year before my IBS-C began I bagen suffering from something that resembles hot flashes (and I'm nowhere near menopause).I suddenly start burning up and start sweating profusely all over but mainly on my face, regardless of the weather.Since my IBS nightmare began this has become more frequent, regardless of the severity of my other symptoms, however being hungry is almost always a trigger for it.Does anybody else have this or know what may be causing it?

If it happens when you're hungry, it might be a symptom you're hypoglycemic. Does it get better after you eat? Do you have any other symptoms at the same time? Do you ever get shaky, tremble, feel weak, or get dizzy at the same time?

I was actually checked for hypoclycemia and I don't have it.When the sweating hits from fasting then I break out in a cold sweat and semi-faint and the I think eating helps. However, sometimes the sweating attack comes out of nowhere with no additional symptoms and nothings alleviates it but the passage of time.

You're not alone, I know exactly what you mean. I get hot, start sweating and feel like I'm going to faint. This is followed by the urgency of having a bowel movement. It's automatic. As soon as I have a bowel movement, the symptoms subside. I haven't always been close to a bathroom when this happens. It's quite traumatic...!!

Yes K, the semi-faint is tolerable when I'm lying down and in any case, just like the sweating eventually subsides after 5-10 minutes. From everyone's stories it sounds like there is a connection there with the digestive system playing on other factors, but besides the fasting which definitely brings on a hot-cold sweat version of it, I don't know what the trigger is in my case.

Yep, I was going to say the same thing. Sounds like a vasovagal response. We just had another member who went to the doctor for something similar. Here's the thread on that: http://www.ibsgroup.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=109014Seems like we're hearing this from a lot more people recently, so it definitely isn't uncommon.

I get extended hot flash like feelings (and I'm a guy) similar to what you are describing. They seem mostly to occur in the evening, when I'm the most bloated/distended. I think it has something to do with my intestines being more full in the evening since I mostly go in the morning. On the rare occasions that I have been able to have a bowel movement in the evenings, my overheated feeling can instantly change to that of feeling cold. The overheated feeling gives me really bad nightsweats as well. I wish there was some safe way to make myself go every evening since I know the stool is right there, but there is just no evening peristaltic reflex like there is in the morning.
